2020 can get out(side)
Ooh, a fancy new blog tool to play with. If that’s not a reason to pick up the proverbial pen for the first time since 2014, I don’t know what is.
To be honest, a bisco adventure has felt like something of a legacy rather than a fresh wind. However, I’m feeling a reviving blink with sight of possibility as the new year holds out her hand. What on earth has the 2020 been? Maybe that’s the easy holding space (at best) or indeed a cheap deflection.
As I write this, I know that there is a New Year’s Day open water swim on the cards. A ritual holding firm. I will therefore wait until that time before writing more…
And it happened. Perfectly fresh and bracing. A short trip to Lansallos cove gave us an adventure swim, stepping out of the normal groove of Cawsand Bay, familiar and lovely as it is. A decent walk down a wooded path and this smuggler’s cove unveiled its secret tracks to the sea. An absolute beaut of a beach. A bit tricky at low tide – a stubbed toe or two – but now we know it’s there, we’ll be back for sure.
Something about a leap in to the sea to welcome the new year; a ‘baptismical’ dunk. What I know is that I walked out of that sea, seeing the world in a new way. Fresh head. Fresh perspective. Cold feet. Really cold feet.
Come on 2021. I see you.
